Effective school governance

Effective-School-Governance

G2G consultants have extensive experience of supporting school governance. Many consultants are also themselves governors of schools and or academy trusts.

Our most frequent work in this area involves training sessions for governors in:

  • understanding Ofsted inspections and governors’ involvement and role
  • understanding school performance data
  • how to challenge school leaders effectively

We also offer governance reviews, which are sometimes recommended by Ofsted after an inspection. Several of our consultants have experience of carrying out governance reviews and some are trained national leaders of governance or national leaders of education.  All of the consultants involved in governance reviews have the following experience and skills (as recommended by the DfE):

  • experience of what outstanding governance is
  • a good understanding of governance, including different contexts and governance structures
  • a clear understanding of Ofsted expectations
  • successful experience of leading governors and school improvement
  • excellent inter-personal skills.

We can also support governing bodies’ own self-evaluation, separately or alongside an external review.

Governance reviews conclude with oral feedback followed by a detailed written report with recommendations for further improvement.
