Headteacher’s performance management

G2G consultants have been involved in supporting headteachers’ performance management for some time. Consultants are commissioned to act as ‘external advisers’ to the governing body panel that is undertaking the headteacher’s performance management/ appraisal.

Head teachers performance management

The School Teachers’ Appraisal Regulations 2012 states that governing bodies of maintained schools should appoint an external adviser for the appraisal of the headteacher. The role of the external adviser is to provide advice and support to the governing body about the headteacher’s performance.

Our consultants who act as external advisers have a good understanding of school performance data as well as the performance management process and how to set objectives and success criteria. They will generally prepare the paperwork for the governing body after the performance management has been completed. Feedback from schools has been very positive.
